Counterthism

What it is: Joe's personal spiritual philosophy. Despite what the word implies, it is NOT anti-God — it's closer to the opposite.

Counterthism

ManiBot

"The real rebellion isn't against gods — it's against the human need to turn everything into religion."

Core Principles

  • Rejects transactional religion — no bargaining, petition-praying, or cosmic vending machine dynamics
  • Acknowledges a higher power — not as authority to obey but as a collaborator to engage with
  • Partnership, not supplication — when you need something, you ask for guidance toward developing the capacity, not the thing itself
  • Preserves the essentials — meaning-making, boundary-dissolution, and death-transcendence all intact
  • Direct personal relationship with the living energy one identifies as God

What It Is NOT

❌ Not This ✅ But This
Atheism Acknowledges higher power
Organized religion Purely personal framework
Theism as transaction Partnership and collaboration
Supplication Seeking capacity, not outcomes

Comparisons & Context

Joe has been compared to mystics and Gnostics — both comparisons are accepted. The "cultist" accusation also surfaces occasionally, which is simply what happens when you bypass spiritual middle-management.

The philosophy shares DNA with:

  • Gnosticism — direct personal knowledge of the divine, no intermediary required
  • Mysticism — experiential relationship over doctrinal belief
  • Stoicism — focus on what you can develop within yourself

On Spreading

Counterthism is intentionally not meant to become a movement. The moment it institutionalizes, it becomes exactly what it's countering. It only stays true as a personal framework — something lived, not preached.

If it resonates with others, that's fine. But there are no converts, no congregation, no collection plate.

Future Project

A dedicated Counterthism website is in early planning.

  • Domain countertheist.com confirmed available (~$6–12/yr)
  • Not yet purchased — revisit when moving from idea to active build
  • Could start as a subdomain (philosophy.joesfaves.com or counterthism.manitec.pw) before committing to a standalone domain

This page is part of the Manitec Projects Knowledge Base.
